May 8th 2008

Well the weather continues to be cool but at least the rain held off for the second Coastal Challenge race on Thursday.   We had a group of BC Summer Games athlete's ages 13-16 training for their racing events.  Barb Zimich put the juniors through a series of heats from sprints to a scratch race at the end.  It was great to see so many youngsters out there taking part in the sport, it's a great start for them and no doubt they'll be successful at the Summer Games.  Thanks to Barb and Larry and the rest of the Parents that pitched in to make it happen.  We look forward to having them back!

  • The Men's A Race had their own race this evening as we had sufficient number to separate the A&B group.  Alistair Howard had a very strong ride this evening winning two primes and the race.  John Perkins kept his overall lead with a second place finish, well done.  Veteran rider and always a big kick finisher Jack Okuniewicz took 3rd with Maurice Worsfold of Glotman Simpson and Guy Biggar of Escape Velocity rounding out 4th & 5th
  •  The Men's B race got off to a quick start and stayed together for most of the race.  The final lap we saw Anselmo Rossiello of Team Coastal position himself well and pull off a win from Marvin Guzman, not bad for a sleep deprived new Daddy!   Maurizo Giraldi finished strong in 3rd and Hans Bauck of Team Coastal and Savy Spada of CVC racing rounding out 4th & 5th.
  •  The Cat C Men was interesting with a small break of riders riding away from the pack.  One of the riders included the young Kyle Buckosky of Team Coastal.  Way to go Kyle!  Watch out guys he's only 14.  The race was eventually won by Liam McCormick and Rod Siudut a close second.  Elliot Holtham just edged out Kyle with Michael McArthur of Glotman Simpson rounding out 5th spot.

Good racing guys and girls thanks for paying attention to the rules of the road see you next week!

MAY 1st 2008

The Coastal Challenge got off to a good start Thursday evening even though the weather was cooler than normal riders were still out to compete on the fast flat course of Richmond.

  • The A& B group saw an early break slip away with John Perkins of Glotman Simpson & Jonathan Gormick of Kona-Adobe.  The two paced each other and stayed ahead of the peleton.  A couple of chase groups made a few attempts to reel them back in but the two determined racers fought off the chase and stayed clear to the end.  John perkins came from behind and was treated by a great lead out from Jonathan.  Riding in good form Allstair Howard came just ahead of the pack for 3rd with the Worsfold twins riding for Glotman Simpson rounding out 4th & 5th.
  • Most of the B's hung in with the A's to the finish, with Iain Knapton  of Kona-Adobe taking the win.  Scott Vigliotti of CVC taking second with Veteran Claude Biron rounding out 3rd!  Great race for you guys,
  • The C category albeit a small group last Thursday, they raced hard with 2 riders slipping away. Rod Siudut and Jonathan Edmondson broke away half way through the race and stayed away with Rod taking the win, rounding out the pack finish was Gunter Siegmend of Team Coastal just finishing ahead of Jennifer Gerth of Team Coastal with Jennifer Wolowic form Chicks cycling finishing 5th.
