FAQ

As we get more questions, we will put them in here.

Q: Can I ride at my own pace?

A: No, the Ride2Survive is a group ride. We all start, ride and finish together and are contained between pilot cars and escort vehicles. We finish with our Survivors leading us!*

Q: Is the Ride2Survive supported?

A: Yes, other than your bike, gear and food for specific dietary requirements you may have, you don't need to bring anything. Our team of volunteers put together an amazing menu of foods that will help you be successful. Our support volunteers will personally assist you at each stop to ensure you get the food and fluids you need. Our riders who have done many, many other events have said that this ride is, bar none, the best supported event they have ever been on!

Q: What do you mean by "escorted" ride?

A: We have the privilege of having the Blue Knights, RCMP, Delta Police and BC Ambulance Service escorting us much like a motorcade for most of the ride. This makes the ride extremely safe, especially in the urban centers. (and it is pretty cool riding through all those red lights!)

Q: What are my costs for participating in this ride?

A: For 2010, we will be setting a minimum donation of $1000 and the donations all go directly to Cancer Research through the Canadian Cancer Society. We also ask for a $100 entry fee that covers the cost of putting on this event. None of the ride costs come out of your donor's dollars!

Q: Do the volunteers have to pay the entry fee or raise funds?

A: There is no entry fee required from our volunteers but we do ask that they participate in the fundraising for the event. As one volunteer said: "The ride needs both riders and support and I can't ride so why shouldn't I raise funds as my contribution?"

Q: You say 100% of your money goes to research... so does everyone else, so what's the difference?

A: This is not so for most events where they fund the costs (staff, advertising etc) of the event from your donation dollars. Look carefully into how the costs of the event are covered.

For the Ride2Survive, as said in a previous Q&A, The donation dollars are separate and do not fund the costs of this ride whatsoever. The money is held for us by the Canadian Cancer Society until we designate the research field we choose to support for the Ride2Survive.  Then, all the money is handed to that area of research.

Q: Doesn't the CCS charge administration costs to the donations?

A: No. Because we are an Independent Event and we Designate our funds, the CCS is obligated to pass the funds through to the specified research grant without any expense.

Q: Is the Ride2Survive related to the Ride to Conquer Cancer?

A: No. The Ride2Survive is an, independent,  all volunteer, grass roots event that chooses to fund our cancer research goals by donating through the Canadian Cancer Society. The Ride to Conquer Cancer is an entirely separate event operated by the BC Cancer Foundation.
